Nagpur sits close to the geographic centre of the country and feels like it: it is a junction city, well connected by rail and air, and a lot of people pass through or have family somewhere else. Sitabuldi is the commercial heart and the most common meeting point; Dharampeth and Ramdaspeth have the cafés and restaurants; Futala Lake and Ambazari are where the city goes in the evening, and a walk at Futala after sunset is about as standard as a first plan gets here. The summer is severe — genuinely among the hottest in India — and it flattens the afternoon social calendar for months. Winters are pleasant and busy, and the orange season is a real local marker of the year.

What is the usual first-date plan in Nagpur?

An evening at Futala Lake, or a café in Dharampeth or Ramdaspeth. Futala is the city's default outdoor evening and has the advantage of being easy to leave; the café version is the one people pick when they want to talk without street noise. Sitabuldi works when neither of you wants to travel.

How much does the summer affect plans?

Between March and June, almost entirely. Nagpur gets some of the hottest weather in the country and the afternoons are simply not usable, so plans move to after sunset or indoors for months at a stretch. From November the city is outdoors again and the evenings around the lakes get busy.
