Bhopal is built around two lakes and a good deal of green, and it is noticeably calmer than other cities of its size. The Upper Lake and the Boat Club stretch are the city's shared evening — walking there, or sitting at one of the viewpoints over the water, is the most common first plan you will be offered. New Market is the older commercial centre, MP Nagar holds the coaching institutes, offices and most of the cafés, and Arera Colony and the newer areas towards Kolar take the residential spread. There is a substantial student and exam-preparation population, which keeps the age mix young and the weekday evenings busy around MP Nagar. Distances are short, traffic is genuinely manageable, and the weather is kinder than in most of central India. It is an easy city to meet somebody in without either person having to plan around a commute.
