Pune runs on two-wheelers and students. The universities, the engineering colleges and the coaching institutes keep a very large young population moving between the older centre and the newer west, and almost everyone rides rather than drives, which changes what a plan looks like — meeting somewhere thirty minutes away is genuinely easy here in a way it is not in Mumbai. Koregaon Park and the cafés around North Main Road take most of the evening meetings, FC Road and JM Road take the student version, and Baner, Aundh and Kalyani Nagar take the people who work out towards Hinjawadi. The weather is mild enough that outdoor seating works for most of the year, and a Sunday ride out towards Sinhagad or Lavasa is a standard second or third date. It is a compact city that behaves like a much larger one after dark.

Is Pune easier to date in than Mumbai?

Logistically, yes. It is smaller, most people ride a two-wheeler, and thirty minutes across town is an ordinary ask rather than a favour. The trade-off is that it is a smaller pool and a fairly connected one — if you have lived here a few years, a mutual acquaintance is more likely than not.

Where do people meet if they work in Hinjawadi?

Usually in Baner, Aundh or Wakad, because coming all the way into Koregaon Park on a weekday evening means sitting in the Hinjawadi exit for a while first. Weekends are when the city centre gets used. Saying which end of Pune you work in is worth more than saying which area you live in.
